Referee Clinic Descriptions

Entry Level – Grade 8
This is the full 16-hour course which results in USSF level 8 certification. The Grade 8 Referee is a fully qualified soccer official who can act as a Referee or Assistant Referee on youth games of all sizes and ages, although they usually start out with the younger age groups and advance based on experience and skill. This clinic is a comprehensive course and covers everything from the size of the ball to who calls the coin toss before overtime including the Laws of the Game, the history of soccer and refereeing, the structure of organized (FIFA) soccer, why the Laws were made in the first place and how the referee should apply and enforce the Laws.

Recreational Referee Clinic – Grade 9
This is an 8 hour course which is focused on small sided youth game officiating. This clinic also prepares the individual as an Assistant Referee/Linesman.

Recert – Grade 8 only
Recertification of knowledge of the Laws of the Game is required annually. This clinic can be used to satisfy annual training requirements prior to taking the recertification exam.

Bridge – Grade 9 to 8
This clinic is intended so that referees at the Grade 9 level can upgrade to the Grade 8 Level. The instruction from this clinic will provide the skills necessary for properly managing soccer matches at the youth level and higher. It is also intended as a basis for developing officials to move to higher levels of the game.

Assignor Clinic
This clinic outlines responsibilities of Referee Scheduler and certifies the individual so they are insured by USSF.
