How do I become a referee?

1. Complete the appropriate referee clinic. Referees must show proof of certification in order to participate as a referee in PAYSL.
   • Grade 9:
     Allows you to referee as a Center for U8 and below.
     Allows you to referee as a Line for U9 and above (Div III and Div IV -- non select games)
   • Grade 8:
     Allows you to referee as a Center for all Div III and Div IV games (you must be 16 years old or 2 years older than the age group playing, whichever is greater).
     Allows you to referee as a Line for Select games.
2. Fill out the Referee Information Sheet (MsWord) or Referee Information Sheet(Pdf) and submit it to the Referee Assignor at refscheduler01@sbcglobal.net.
3. Attend mandatory referee meeting at the beginning of the season.

Referee Requirements

• Referees need to be at the fields 30 minutes prior to start time of their first game.
• Referees will conduct themselves appropriately at all times when at the fields.
• Referees need to wear proper attire:
  • Main Jersey: Gold with Black pinstripes
  • Alternate Jersey: Black with White pinstripes
  • Shorts: Plain black shorts with pockets are recommended. Plain black shorts without pockets are ok. No other marking on the shorts are acceptable.
  • Socks: Socks must be Black with white stripes. Carrying more than one pair is recommended.
  • Watches: Recommended you carry two watches during a game in case one fails.
  • Footwear: Must be black in color.
  • Whistle: Recommended you carry at least two whistles with two different pitches in case similar whistles are being used on adjacent fields.
  • Red/Yellow Cards: Must have a red and yellow card to be carried during the game.
  • Flags: Must own a set of linesman flags as the club may not provide.
  • Pen/Pencil: Must have a writing instrument to update the game card.
